Two men were arrested following a reported assault and firearm incident in the cityโs North End. On Tuesday, Jan. 20th, officers responded to a gas station for a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers met with an individual who stated that they had gone to their apartment complex to retrieve their personal belongings when they were confronted by two males.

(WLNE) โ The New Bedford Police Department said that two men were arrested after an alleged assault involving firearms on Jan. 20. 18-year-old Yomar Colon and 20-year-old Jose Velez, both of Providence, were charged with assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm and ammunition without an FID card.

The victim told police they went to an apartment to retrieve personal belongings when they were confronted by two men. The victim reported being struck in the face and said the men brandished guns.
